Hello my friends,

As I look back on my past 10 years I realize how blessed I have been to be a part of all your children's lives. They have given me so much!

In December I will be closing my Kindermusik business to move with my family to Birmingham. It makes me extremely sad. However, the blessing is that back in September my husband lost his job unexpectedly but pretty quickly was offered a great job in Birmingham. We are so thankful to God for this.

We will continue and finish our classes through this semester and all classes will end by December 1st. Please let me know if you have any questions. We will have classes the week of Thanksgiving.

I have alerted Sarah Hall downtown at First Baptist that I am sure many of you would like to continue the Kindermusik journey. She is ready to help and accommodate you. Her number is 271-3264.

At birth, children's hearing, vision, and motor skills are not fully developed. A child's brain will develop neural pathways that will allow him to use the information coming in through his senses to comprehend his ever-expanding environment. "Vision and hearing are the senses that help a child understand his separateness from the people and the world around him. They serve as the motivators in his exploration of his body and of the world." Combining visual, tactile, and auditory elements in activities such as Zoom-e-oh, Round and Round the Village and Slide Down strengthens these developing neural pathways (Moss).

I have a friend who lives in TN who is an incredible seamstress. Her name is Sallee. When I lived near her about 10 years ago she made me the most beautiful curtains. She has 3 biological children and 2 adopted from Ethiopia. She has always made her children's clothes and decorates her home with her wares. She homeschools and sews the best quality stuff I have every seen. Well, I saw her a few weeks ago at a retirement party for a friend of ours and got to meet her new precious little ones. She gave me her blog address and I was so impressed with her dresses. Check it out! Her prices are great and I PROMISE you will love her quality!

The Movement-Vision-Reading Connection

Wow! What a great response! I had tons of registrations this week! Woo Hoo!!!! Better hurry and get your registrations in...especially that Our Time Tuesday class and the Village class. Those classes are bulging now and will be full again in the Spring.

Try out the new Family Time class or Sign and Sing. If you are a Village family, I encourage you to take both. They work hand in hand and it is worth that extra 5 weeks you will give to learn how to teach your child a new way of communicating. Family Time begins right after the Sign and Sing finishes (Feb. 23) and is a wonderful choice for those moms who have more than one child at different ages and stages of life.

The week of October 19th I will be selling a few instruments, books and bilibos. I will post the prices on the items. I picked these items up at a Conference this past summer and will sell them to you for what I paid for them. I want your children to enjoy them. I will have bags for you to put them in if you want to use them for Christmas gifts or stocking stuffers!

The Winter/Spring semester begins the end of January. I will begin closed registration on November 3rd - December 1st. This is for current students only. I will open to the public on December 1st. If you register before December 1st your child will receive a FREE Kindermusik t-shirt (to be given out in December). I have ordered lots of fun colors so you will have fun choices. The only requirement to register is to fill out a registration form and pay the materials fee for your class. Tuition isn't due until the first class in January. It is worth it to register for the t-shirt. Also, the Village class is bulging and will be spilling over into the Our Time classes in January so you Our Time families register fast!

I am offering the NEW Sign and Sing class beginning November 3rd. It is a 5-week class being held on Tuesdays from 9:15 - 10:00. It is $70 ($30 materials, Tuition $40) for new students and $60 ($30 materials, $30 tuition) for existing students. Registration begins October 20th.

Remember all the ways you can save money on your tuition next semester. Remember to send me an email with your listed savings so I can keep track of it!

Most young ones often do not know the difference between their speaking voice and their singing voice. This is why some children sing in a monotone drone. Encourage your child to explore their upper voice. You could take a scarf or towel and make an arc over your head and say WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE in a high pitched voice.

Hearing and feeling music at different tempi (different speeds like fast or slow) helps to develop a sense of timing and comprehend language and music at different speeds.

Week 1 Kindermusik class

What a great time we had this week! I am so excited to have so many new families and new friends.

Here are a few things I wanted to share with you for week 1:

I want you to feel comfortable to know that in light of flu season coming upon us and all kinds of different sicknesses floating around, I will be very diligent to sanitize my instruments after each use. I will not use instruments more than once before they are cleaned. Soft items will be washed after each use as well.

I want to ask you a favor. Between each class I have 15 minutes to set up for the next class. If you wouldn't mind terribly if you would wait outside the door of our classroom until I open the door it would help me out so much! I just want to have everything ready before you enter so I can focus on your child as they enter.

Well, the summer is coming to a close, school is starting and I am beginning to study for Fall classes. I am getting so excited but not so excited at how slowly classes are filling. In 10 years this has never happened but our economy has set the path for so many. I am trying to help add some incentives to those who would like to take advantage of some money saving. Read below:

If you are a new family to my classes you will receive $10 off each child's tuition, plus recommend a friend who signs up and receive another $10 off. Recommend as many friends as you like and your tuition could be free! Home materials must be paid for.
New military families will receive $15 off each child's tuition, plus recommend a friend who signs up and receive $10 off each registration.
Any families who have taken a class from me in the past 8 years will receive $15 off their tuition for every student they recommend who registers for a class.

Hi Families!

I have just returned from a Kindermusik workshop and I got my shot of adrenaline and I am fired up for the Fall classes! I purchased new instruments and Bilibos. They are all fun additions to my Kindermusik classes this Fall. I can't wait!

Also, I have lots of new ideas to save you money and keep encouraging my enrollment. The economy is hard but music is so important to our little ones so I want to try and help make signing up for Kindermusik a little easier on your wallet. The first I will give you now. Every child you recommend to my program that signs up for a class you will receive $10 off your tuition or a $10 bill. This is unlimited up to the price of your tuition. If you recommend 5 children, that is $50 to you! I have more ideas that will begin after the semester begins but I will wait until then.

Hello Sweet Families!

Just a reminder that May 6 and 7 (next week) is our last week for Kindermusik classes until August.

Please don't let this semester end and not guarantee your child's spot for the Fall! Simply go to my website and register for Fall 2009 classes. You only have to pay the registration fee and materials fee to register. Tuition isn't due until the first day of class. Classes begin August 25th. I know that seems like a long way off but classes fill very fast and time just flies when you are having fun. So you can have a fun-filled summer and not worry about remembering to sign up for Kindermusik classes!

I have obtained a donation of a LEON LOARD PORTRAIT sitting worth $1150. It can be purchased for a donation of $500 to Cornerstone Classical Christian School. The sitting must take place by or before June 30th, 2009. It entitles the bearer to apply $1000 toward the price of a beautiful Signature oil portrait OR the Gallery Canvas and Studio Painting OR an Original Commissioned oil portrait by select artists. FALL SCHEDULE

After much thought, I have finally finished my Fall Kindermusik schedule! 6 different classes are being offered and many choices for your family and your child! Please visit my website to see my schedule.

One class I would like for you to take notice of is the Young Child class! This class is for children that are 4 1/2 to 7. This class in my opinion is the "icing on the cake" of Kindermusik. It is the class that will prepare your child for any kind of private music lessons. There are 4 semesters and in those 2 years they will learn to read music by learning to play the glockenspiel (Sem 1 and 2), recorder (Sem. 3) and dulcimer (Sem. 4). Unfortunately, since I can only teach morning classes at Landmark this class will probably only work for home schooled children and those being held back from Kindergarten because of a late birthday.

If you recommend someone to the Young Child class and they register you will receive a $10 discount from your tuition! It is unending......if you recommend 5 children and they register you will receive $50 off your tuition! What a deal!!!!!

Nearing the End!

Well folks, this semester is nearing it's end. As I type that much sadness fills my heart as I know many of you will be moving on to a new town. I pray God gives you safe travels, a wonderful new home, new friends and a precious new Kindermusik teacher! The last days of class are May 5th (Tuesday students) and 6th (Wednesday students).

This weekend I spent some time working on my Fall schedule since I will not be teaching summer classes this year. I think you will like it. Please take time to check out my class schedule on my website and register as soon as you can. All you have to pay is the materials fee to register. Tuition isn't due until the first class in August. New families will be moving in during the months of June and July and will be searching for a new Kindermusik class!

Well, here we are at week 10 of our Spring Kindermusik journey! What this means for Sign and Sing and Family Time classes is that this week is your last week. However, you can sign up for the new 5-week ABC Music and Me class beginning April 7th on Tuesdays at 9:15. I have 2 spots left. Village, Our Time and Imagine That classes continue on as usual and will end the first week of May 5th or 6th depending on which day you attend.

As for summer camps. I have decided not to offer summer classes. This was a hard decision for me. Two factors entered into my decision. The information I gained from all of you has let me know that many of you travel a lot and want to take the summer off. We will also sadly lose many families to the military so summer classes isn't really a viable option for these families. Please check www.kindermusik.com to find a Kindermusik educator in your new area. You simply put in your zip code and shazam you have a new Kindermusik teacher! You will all be greatly missed! The second part of my decision is that I devote my summers to my boys. I love this time with them.

On a bright note, I will begin registration for the Fall semester the middle of April. I will post my schedule very soon. As soon as it is posted on my website you may begin registering. If you know your schedule for the Fall please register early because as the new military families move into our area in June or July they begin filling the classes quickly. Don't lose your spot.

Registration for ABC Music and Me

This class will be held on Tuesdays beginning April 7th and ending 5 weeks later on May 5th. ABC Music and Me is offered once a week for 45 minutes. Tuition is $52 ($17-home materials, $35-tuition) for your 1st child, your 2nd child is only $17.50 and remaining children are free. This class is offered to help those in Sign and Sing and Family Time to continue the last 5 weeks of the semester in a music class; however, it is also open to the public. ABC Music & Me, created by Kindermusik International, is a new music enrichment program designed specifically for 24 month - 4 year-old children. Each lesson emphasizes a different area of a child's development: confidence, coordination, vocal expressiveness, careful listening, and early exposure to reading skills.

Balance

The semicircular canals are three tiny, fluid-filled tubes in our inner ear that help us keep our balance. When we move our heads around, the fluid triggers the hairs that line each canal. These hairs translate the movement of the fluid into nerve messages that are sent to your brain. This is how the body knows to stay balanced ("Semicircular Canals." 1995-2006).

Scholastic Books

Every semester I like to offer my families a little something extra. I am a member of the Scholastic Book Club, a book club of children's books. This is not a Kindermusik affiliation. For many years I have ordered books for my children and for my Kindermusik families from Scholastic basically because the prices are awesome and I love books! You can't beat Eric Carle books for $1!

So here is how it works! I bring flyers to class. The flyer is full of books you can order. You take the flyer home and if you find something you like, you mark it on the order form, add up your total and bring the order form and a check for the total amount back to class the next week. Make the check to me not Scholastic. There is no sales tax or shipping. It is all included in the price of the books. I then gather everyone's orders, go online and make the order and pay with a credit card. The books usually arrive in one week.

I am not earning money selling books. I do get points that I in turn redeem for books for my Kindermusik classes. Please do not feel pressured. I would order the books anyway. Focused Listening

Attentive listening is a vital skill in every part of life and learning. The ability to listen affects intellectual, emotional, and social areas either positively or negatively. Developing listening skills positively impacts language development. (Baney, 2004)

No classes March 17 & 18 due to Spring Break.

Refund Policy
There is no refund policy unless a class doesn't make. Exception: If a family withdraws 2 weeks before a semester begins, a full refund will be given.

Makeup Policy
If I miss a class due to family sickness or emergency I will make up the class by adding a class at the end of the semester or another day of the same week of the missed class. If you miss a class due to sickness, you may join any class on another day if you choose. Please just let me know if you would like to do this.

Who is Mother Goose?

The first collection of "Mother Goose" stories was produced in 1697 by Frenchman Charles Perrault and included ten fairy tales. His book was translated into English in 1729 as Mother Goose's Fairy Tales. Then, in 1787, Isaiah Thomas published the first American edition, Mother Goose's Melody: or Sonnets for the Cradle, which consisted of about 50 rhymes including favorites Little Tommy Tucker and Jack and Jill.

Meanwhile, the origin of the figure Mother Goose is not completely clear - perhaps she was Bertrada, mother of Charlemagne who, for her large feet, was also known as "Queen Goosefoot" and was a patroness of children. Whether or not there was a "real" Mother Goose, the mythical figure mere l'oye (which translates as "mother goose") was familiar in France by the mid-17th century as a "fairy birdmother who told charming tales to children." Of the body of tales and rhymes attributed to her, some were in print (in Italy!) as early as 1637. For more information click here.

"Narnia"

For the past 6 weeks, I have been blessed to be a part of Taylor Road Baptist Church's production of the musical "Narnia". It is based on C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Fall Semester Closing

I can't believe another semester is closing. We will celebrate our last class this week and then break until January 20th. Please don't delay in registering your sweet ones for classes in the Spring. Classes are filling so fast. I have been so blessed to be with you these past 15 weeks and have loved getting to know you and your precious children. It is on days like today that you love being a Kindermusik teacher. One little Tony gave me the biggest hug after class and then started to leave with his Nana. He turned and came back and turned his face upward to me at which I bent down and he planted a big one on my cheek. What a way to end my teaching day!
